Designed for current and future Christian educators but open to anyone, this course equips participants to create engaging, inclusive learning environments that promote positive student behavior and success. Student Engagement to Support Positive Behaviors in the Classroom explores the relationship between engagement, motivation and behavior, emphasizing proactive, evidence-based practices. Participants will examine instructional design, classroom climate and consistent routines that support diverse learners and strengthen partnerships between teachers and families. Through reflection and practice, educators will develop clear, caring strategies to collaborate with families and respond to student behavior.
Course Objectives
- Assess current classroom culture and identify areas for growth.
- Develop and implement a plan to improve classroom climate and student engagement.
- Apply strategies that promote positive student behavior and learning.
- Create a classroom environment that reflects Christian calling as educators.

Jill Oetting is serving as the principal of Immanuel Lutheran School in St. Charles, Missouri. She has 33 years in public school education including special education, early childhood through fifth grade, high school and administration. Jill is a graduate of Missouri State University where she completed her bachelors degrees and Lindenwood University where she completed her educational specialist and doctoral studies of school administration.

Scott Huster serves as Head of School at Immanuel Lutheran School in St. Charles, Missouri, bringing nearly 24 years of experience in education, including 14 years in school administration. He earned a degree in Secondary Education with a Broad-Field Social Studies emphasis from Concordia University Wisconsin and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University St. Paul, Minnesota. His leadership philosophy is deeply relational, grounded in the belief that strong relationships are foundational to effective teaching, learning, and a positive school culture, and he is passionate about helping educators leverage the power of relationships within classrooms and school communities.
